Glangevlin & Cuilcagh Mountain

This photograph of the village of Glangevlin was taken from the Moneen Rd in May 2011. Glangevlin sits at the base of Cuilcagh Mountain in west Cavan. In Irish it is called Gleann Ghaibhle which translates as 'The Kingdom of Glan'

The 'Shannon Pot' is located in Glangevlin and is the source of the River Shannon.  Small streams high up in the Cuilcagh Mountains flow into the limestone bedrock and later surface as the spring that forms the source of Ireland's longest river. The summit of Cuilcagh Mountain lies on the border between Cavan and Fermanagh and is the highest point in both counties.
