The tower in this photograph was built by Sir Benjamin Lee Guinness on the grounds of Ashford Castle
in 1864. It’s a secret gem hidden in Cong woods in the Ashford Estate that few locals and fewer still tourists know about but it’s well worth the 15 min walk from Cong.
The tower is over 20m in height and once you manage to climb the steep spiral staircase to the top you are rewarded by stunning tree tops views over the Ashford Estate.
The Guinness Tower at Cong Woods was built by one of the Guinness family who owned nearby Ashford Castle
in Ireland in the 1800s
