Lough Talt

This photograph was taken looking west over Lough Talt on a crisp winter morning in 2009. Lough Talt sits at the foot of Crummus mountain, midway between the towns of Tubbercurry and Ballina on the Sligo/Mayo border. The road which passes the tranquil lake is known as the 'Windy Gap'.

Lough Talt is a very popular spot for trout fishermen, and arctic char are said to be still present in its deep waters.

The area is also popular with walkers with a 6.5km circuit winding around the lake shore. Lough Talt is also the starting point for The Sligo Way, a 74km long linear trail that ends in the village of Dromahair in County Leitrim.
