On Baile`s Strand
The stone pillars that dominate this photograph mark the route at low tide where you can walk or drive across the causeway to the island. There are 14 markers in total which were erected in 1845 to guide people to the island from the mainland following several drowning deaths in the previous years. Coney was once home to over 120 islanders but now only one family inhabit the island.
