Storm Gathering Killary Harbour

Mweelrea and Delphi straddle Killary's northern shore while the Maumturk and Twelve Bens [Link] mountain ranges rise to the south. The village of Leenane sits in a stunningly beautiful location nestled into the head of Killary Harbour. With the ever changing light reflecting off the harbour and brooding mountains, the approach to Leenane is spectacular from all directions.
This rugged beauty has made Killary and Leenane ever popular with artists and writers. The stage play 'The Beauty Queen of Leenane' by Irish playwright Martin McDonagh has been hugely successful with long runs in both Broadway and the West End. Leenane was also the location for Jim Sheridan's film adaptation of John B. Keane's famous play 'The Field' in the early 1990s.
